Embark on a journey into the world of DC power engineering as we recount a recent mobilisation of Barbour Consulting’s expert team to a client’s data centre in Paris.

One of the Barbour Consulting DC power engineering teams recently mobilised to a clients data centre in Paris to ship and install a new 800 amp -48 DC system. They replaced the battery blocs and install all new DC load cables, new AC supply cables to energise the new rectifier systems.

The equipment was installed and commissioned in tandem to the incumbent ‘live’ system that provides power to a large quantity of cabinet mounted Telco equipment that transports the many 1000s of customers optical traffic in and out of central Paris.

The works had to be completed, swapped from the old system onto the new system with no site active equipment loss of service. The implications of any loss of service to any item of equipment active in the fibre transmission would have very serious.

Using a very carefully planned switching procedure all active equipment within the data centre was migrated from the old DC system to the new, more efficient and cost-effective Eaton System we installed. This all was completed without a single piece of equipment being affected.

Careful planning, time taken, check and re check and the right engineers – a very successful project that could have had very serious implications to our client.
