Whilst one of our electrical engineers was carrying out planned electrical testing at the 2 no. Nevers Modules (in the middle of France), it was discovered that the utility suppliers main earth connection had failed resulting in extremely high earth readings being measured.
The French utility supplier stated it could be weeks, perhaps months, till they can rectify the issue.
The site is an In Line Amplifier (ILA) for one of the major fibre connection routes from North to South of France.
There is no option to power the site down or it run on Generator full time for the next few months. Earth rods were installed but still no acceptable Earth value could not be achieved.
To solve the problem immediately we mobilised a building team to lay a concrete base, bolt down a GRP enclosure and pour in resin.
The electrical team followed behind and 2 no. New Neutral Earth Transformers we installed with a time delay on no.2 transformer to stagger the inrush on the incumbent main overload device.
